No lights on my CD player!!

Ive just fitted my newly purchased factory fit  single CD player. When i turn the lights on, the control buttons dont illuminate on it. Am i missing a piece of loom? Unfortunately the instructions are in German!!

yeah the control lights should go on, may be worth checking the deck in someone elses mk4 and then if it works in theirs you will know it's not the deck.  Also check that the loom is the same as a normal mk4, not sure on the ragtops if they have different wiring etc cos of roof and other circuitry.  Or failing that check with a local dealer to see if they have a wiring diagram. good luck

Yeh take it back to the dealer, i put a 6cd multichanger in the boot and didn't get any problems cos the face off radio on the dash is a cassette, go straight into the workshop at your local VW.

There's nothing wrong with your CD player, but you haven't bought/fitted the extra adaptor loom that is required to provide illumination of the buttons.

This loom has to be inserted in between the car wiring loom plug and the back of the Gamma/Beta head unit then it has a small 2 pin plug to connect into a socket on the back of the CD player. This is the same with both single and 6 disc VW in-dash CD units.

If you've bought the CD player new and boxed from VW then I think you should get the adaptor lead with it, also extraction tools and a triangular separator shelf to go between the CD player and head unit.

I think the part number you require is 6X0051734A - ?11.66+vat last time I bought one a year ago.
