I was wondering what is the best disc/pad combination on the mk 2 16v as my front nearside caliper is seized and the disc is cracked a little. The car has only done around 4000 miles since all the discs and pads were renewed but the previous owner done this. I was going to splash out on 2 new calipers, dics and pads. Could I upgrade to Mk 3 GTi calipers and if I did would they come with the carriers. I also heard that mintex were the best pads but I thought I better ask you guys first.

I'm running mintex pads/discs and they work well enough. I had the discs drilled though just for the look :)

Stevy what year is your 16v, early spec 16v's have 239mm front discs, late spec have 256mm? If your?s is an earlier spec it would probably be worth upgrading, you should be able to get all the parts you need for under ?100 from a breakers, some owners even upgrade to G60 spec i.e. 280mm front dics. I'm not sure about using Mk3 brakes, other than rear Mk3 calipers to replace the rear Mk2 calipers which have a habit of seizing, and the callipers won?t come with the carriers, which cost a fortune new!
