02A box n shafts
« on: 17 September 2008, 00:18 »
Could someone please please help me!! Sounds desperate eh? My poor mk3 16v is off the road cos i cant find a s/h pair of shafts to match an ABF engine and 02a-CDA box.  I need to widen the search. Are these used on seats and passats?

I would do the cv joints but i got the car on the ramp jacked her up and the whole shaft is turning "egg shaped" is the only way i can describe it? So hence a pair of shafts.

ANY help would be great.

Cheers Matt

Where abouts are you based mate?  There is a slavage place in Derby that had a load of driveshafts.  None are an exact match for the 02A box (trust me, I hunted through ) but there were plenty the same length if you're prepared to re-fit your own cv joints (it's worth having them apart to clean and re-grease anyway).

Ok. Thanks for the reply MrTurner. Im aprrox 10m from cardiff, but im prepared to pay courier costs cos im getting real impatient and baffled i cant get hold of a match.

So are u telling me ANY shaft will fit providing and they are the correct length and correct cv's inner and outer?

I was guessing that i had to have an exact matching shaft? Im unsure cos ive never done a cv joint before.

Thanks very much for your reply. HOORAY help already. I like it ere already.

Well the salvage place told me it's the length of the shaft that is important.  All the VW's they had seemed to have the same gearbox end cv joint, but couldn't see inside the hub end to make sure that was the same.

Best bet is to get the yellow pages and take a trip to a salvage yard or 2 with the driveshaft you want to replace.  The full driveshaft was £25.  They could courier, but you really want to go and compare yours and be able to take it back if it's not right..
