reverse lights.

Ok, searched for posts, checked the fuses, checked the bulbs, looked for the reverse light switch on the gear box, but cant seem to find it.

I have no reverse lights but i definately used to. I think it is since this wire started hanging down, as nothing else seems to be affected.



Would like to get this wire going to where it belongs, before i try anything else. does anyone know where theirs go, if they have them? In the picture there are two wires. one is red, one is black, so i assumed they go to the same place. however connecting them to the same fuse did nothing.

can anyone shed some light on this ? Its a 1984 8v gti.

i know it doesn't solve your problem as i never read your post, but you don't need reverse lights, really.

you'd be surprised. Not so much for the driver, bfut when there are other cars around you, it can make life difficult as they think you are sitting there doing nothing.

Also, if you live in a dark lane that is hard to park, reverse lights help a great deal.

those wires look a bit thin to be reverse light wires. most of the time the reverse light switch breaks so might b worth replacing it, i cant see that the wire would cut by your fuse box but i maybe wrong

quick check of my fusebox faq and the reverse light wires run to D/16 (red/blk) and D/18 (blue/blk).  Have a look at your gearbox, the early ones have a large multi plug on the side of the selector housing, pop this off and check for voltage at the red/blk and blue/blk wires with the ign on.  If you have a later one it'll be a 2 pin sensor on the top close to the back, again check for voltage on the above wires.
