Leaky mk3 gti sunroof - Help needed please
« on: 10 September 2008, 12:41 »
I bought a clean Black mk3 Golf GTI (3dr) on Friday and only thing I have found wrong with it so far is that the sunroof leaks. The previous owner said the piece of glass had being removed by the valeter and not re-fitted properly. I'm starting to think he might have been having me on as I can't see where I would move the glass to as it appears to be leaking in several positions. If anybody has any experience with a leaky sunroof I would appreciate any help, and I think the mrs would too she gets soaked every time I go round a corner at the moment haha!!!

check all the drain holes, their 4 that block up, the shoots are in the door openings inn the middle of the hinge, u will see it, its a little rubber shoot, stick a bit of wire up it, also open the sunroof and in each corner the water passes down (the 2 front corners go down to the front doors) so do the same here too with the bit of wire

that should sort it, if not your sunroof seal may need renewing, quire dear for what they are, around 40 notes i think (without checking)

Thanks for the advice I'll have a go after work. The seal looks in good condition so I'm hoping the drainage holes are just blocked up. Are there only two drainage pipes then (one to each door from front of sunroof)? I'm guessing so as it's a 3 door.

I'll let you know how I get on....

im sure their should be 4, you will probably be able to access the rear 2 via the sunfoof but they will come out somewhere near the rear wheel arch so prob cant get to those (same on 5 door) front ones are what usuallly block anyhow so good luck with it
