Whats special if anything about the ADY 8v?
This is my first MK3 GTI but all the 1.8 and 2.0l 8vs all look the same in the engine and Transmission depts.
I worked on a 2E once (Head gasket) and that was a bit stogey but i was driving an B reg MK2 Golf GTI (40mm drop P slots De badged except Front wing badges, singe lamps Atlas grey de trimmed except arches SS zaust, Hit a big Lorry) at the time.

First of all it has siemens injection (rather than bosch like the 2e) and it has different pistons and a higher compression than the later models...and it was fitted for 7 months during 1995 to the golf and many years to the sharan

Wasnt it kind of a alternative to the 2E untill the AGG engine was used in the 95 and later models?  I was asking my self this very question the other day.

It was brought in due to the emmision regualtions that came into force in 1995 and was a stop gap engine as the gti engine wasn't ready (designed for more torque but less sporty top end! well it was for the heavy weight sharan ! hence the higher compression ratio to suit that car)... then vw brought the agg with its "more sporty set up" that was specifically fitted to the golf gti
