how fooked off am i!!!!!!!!
9.30am tuesday cylinderhead finally arrives, unloads from van driver fooks off, i open and what a c@nt, its not off a 1.8 20v non turbo!!!! (engine code agn) its off a 1.8 20v turbo!!! (engine code agu), it has the lot cams, pulley, rocker cover, complete with the ever failing 'coil packs', exhaust manifold, and thats it, i rung the geezer i got it from and he said its fine to fit, identical apart fromt the size of the inlet ports, not a bad thing so i started to strip cams etc as mine are different and mine has vvt, turned head over after i removed the cams and one of the fookin inlet valves wouldnt close!!! arrrggggghhhhh, rung the geezer to complain some more and as unit had been pressure and crack tested it was like that when it was dispatched, so the 3/4 days its been slidin round in the back of a tnt wagon its got fooked!!!, right geezer is willing to give me full refund or some cash back to cover getting replaced,, so i plumped for the later, as the prices of all the ohter heads were ?300-400 plus vat,
so i had to make a tool to fit on my old valve spring compressor to fit as these are tiny, remove spring cap and collets and remove bent valve, no problems, guide ok, right i thought, remove on from my old head....... which i did and luckily enough picked a straight one 1st go!!, got the grinding paste and sucker and ground the baby into position fo ra while, clear away all paste residue etc and fit replace ment valve properly, looked at all the other valves all ok , so transfer my cams and vvt unit over to agu head, piss easy to do (marked cam sprocket positon and chain position to ensure i get timing as it was on old head), right after lubin with fresh oil during assembley i make sure every thing is tightend to correct tourqe, right let bang her i think, fit extended locating bolts to head, apply gasket then gently lower the head, tourqe up in correct sequence and stages all spot on, get cam in tdc timing position, and then the crankshaft, easy (ensuring no piston to valve contact), fit timing belt and tensioner and apply tension,
then refit injection system, manifold etc and some other bit, turn over by hand without plugs and every thing goin to plan, turn over on key nice chuffin noises coming from spark plug holes, nice we have compression.
apply plugs and cross fingers, turn the key and...........
what a f@ckin racket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
she runs but on about 3 1/2 cylinders.... fooker
ring andy water a independent vw geezer for advice, he tells me about the hydraulic tappets causing probs if oil no 'squeezed from them apon rebuilding' so i strip and do the above mention operation (head still on car) rrebuild once more and time up and have another go, nor running on about 3 3/4 cylinders.......starts straight away, ok about 3k revs, but lumpy tick over and occasion band of missing higher in the rev range, havent got stuff to do a compression check as i reckon 1 or 2 of the other inlets on chamber no4 (where i changed valve earlier may also be a little off its seat)

? well cheesed, ready for towing car somewhere to torch it!!!!
