MK4 1.4 Judders when accellerating
« on: 08 September 2006, 11:28 »
I have a MK4 Golf 1.4. A month ago I got it serviced, a few days later it started to judder when I press the accellerator and hold it at a certain point. The gear stick alos moves around at this point. This happens in any gear while I am driving normally.

I have shown the car to two car mechanics and they have hooked up a computer to it and could not find anything wrong with it. I am at my wits end, please could someone help.

Thanks in advance.

have they driven it?

i'd say you have something wrong with the drivetrain.  do your revs rise but your speed remain the same? does it feel like your clutch is slipping??

They have driven and admit to the problem but they have no idea what it could be. It accellerates fine, if I floor it it does not judder at all. It only judders (Sometimes quite violently) if I hold the accellerator at a specific point.

I have been reading around the net and found a few other people having similar problems. One person said it was a cracked spark plug cable, two others said that in the gear box they use rivets instead of bolts and the rivets broke off and messed up the gear box. There are people saying that you should check X, Y and Z sensor, check the cam belt and a whole host of other things.

What should I do?

i also have this problem, but i would say i notice it more when im in 5th gear, just driving normally (30-40mph) not accelerating just holding a constant speed. I must admit i had my thoughts about it being a spark plug related issue but im yet to check it. Its not bothering me all that much, i know its nothing 'serious' but it does get quite frustrating!

Likely to be either your MAF sensor or bad spark plug somewhere. The Focus ST (previous car) was known for it.

what was changed on the service, could be wrong plugs fitted with incorrect electrode gap
