20 8v engine prob
« on: 28 August 2008, 13:32 »
Hi guys, got a 97 gti with 90k on the clock

When approaching say a roundabout and you put your foot on the clutch, as the revs drop it will sometimes cut out/stall.

Has anyone any ideas what the problem could be? I presume these engines will have some sort of idle control valve, could this been the issue?

Cheers

Cheers,

Iv found that thread really usefull, if not a little worrying !

Iv just ordered the ECU relay that people have mentioned from vw, for the sake of a 10er i thought i might as well. While im fitting it at the weekend il also whip the throttle body out and give it a good clean. If the problem still presists il have to look at the fuel relay then the ignition system

i would also check the black rubber pipe on the rocker cover has not been slowly disintergrating like mine did! also check the plastic pipe goin to the bottom of the engine that its attached to to see if there is any sh!t in there as i cleaned mine out an it helped a fair bit!!!

had the same problem yesterday, where the throttle cable was pushed in one notch. pushed it out one notch and it stopped doing it. basically, the car wasnt getting air when running idle.
