Hello!

I have a question regarding the GTI 2,0 Tfsi engine, and I hope someone has some input for me.

How much load can you put on the pistons and rods before something bad happens, I´ve
heard numbers such as 350hp and 380hp on the Golf GTi (200hp)... but the Edition 30
is all news for me, haven´t heard a thing there.

So.. could anyone confirm this with a maximum load of 350-380hp on the 200hp GTI and
what about the Edition 30.. ?

High torque is more likely to break an engine than high bhp. There are a few BWA (originally K03s) TFSi engines out there with 380bhp and have had no major failures.

Ok.. but I´ve already contacted a few firms regarding the DSG and the torq problem,
so a hardware upgrade for the DSG-gearbox will be fitted asap.

But it would be interesting to hear if someone has some input regarding the engine and
its limits.. (pistons, rods, injectors and so on.. )

Unless you are uprating the turbo there is no reason to upgrade the injectors on an Edition 30. The fuel pump ugrade along with a Milltek TBE, intercooler and remap will easily see the top limit of the K04 reached. Up to this point (just under 350bhp and 365lbft) there is no reason to uprate the pistons or rods either. As you mentioned the DSG box would benefit from an early upgrade of either the clutch plates or the clutchpacks at this stage.

On the standard GTI there are some tuners that have kept the standard internals and are running a reliable 375 bhp and 340lbft on GT28 turbo's.

Above 380bhp and 360lbft you are getting into the territory where prolonged upgrades will mean that you will be better off upgrading internals like the rods. Upgrading pistons at the same time would be pruident, but not really necessary until over 400bhp. At this point you will be well into big turbo and enlarged injectors territory too.

These figures are all related to what I have seen on other cars both abroad and at home and on the forums I "live" on.

I will be aiming att aprox 380bhp, and I know that APR has a kit that I think will be interesting.

Look att this link with an Audi A3 Sportback, APR tuned with a 380 kit. This car
has the DSG, and it would be interesting to know how he has dealt with the torq
problem.

The car is up for sale now in the US so I don't think we'll ever know the long term effects on all that power/torque on the dsg box.
Without traction power is nothing!

To bad the DSG box wasn´t upgraded, would have been interesting to check with APR
if they had a hardware upgrade availeble.

And this is the point I've been trying to make in My DSG woes thread!

Awesome GTI DSG car - now put back to 320bhp and 300lbft after being 375bhp and 340lbft
R32 Turbo DSG for sale on Pistonheads with over 400bhp - is clutch issue why it is for sale?
A3 with DSG and 380bhp - again up for sale.

These people may well sell on their cars regularly, but the issue is whether they are selling their cars because they were suffering from clutch slip in the DSG box :undecided:

I've dropped my power back and the car is running okay, but when it was up at 335bhp and 350lbft the box was having issues with slip and transfer of gears under hard accelleration.

An upgrade will be well worth it, but I for one will not be going for a big turbo conversion. It will be plenty fast enough with the Quaife and uprated plates with the full power turned back on.

See my vid below from when it first had the fuel pump, intercooler and custom map fitted. Once you've seen it tell me if you can see any real difference in accelleration between the A3 and mine (Mine 32 to 120 in 10 secs on the video and his was 8 seconds 32 to 100mph!)

Your car seems to run very good, and the differens is not so big from the A3.

Hohnester has torq reduced my car to 360Nm (265lbs/ft), and Oettinger has the same reducement on their
DSG tuning.

I will still upgrade my turbo when the DSG upgrade is in place.  :cool:
