Remapped or not?
« on: 12 August 2008, 12:53 »
Hi,
I think this has probably been asked before but i'm still none the wiser.

i'm not entirely sure whether my 1.8t has been remapped or not. As i've never driven a standard 150 i haven't really got anything to compare it to.

The only thing that i've driven close to it is a a3 2.0tdi 137hp and the golf seems alot faster but not sure if it's just the difference between petrol and diesel.

Is there anyway of testing it out without using vag com cos it's proving pretty tricky to get hold of.

It's an AUM 2001 Y (think Ko3s)

Obviously i'm probably just hoping here but would be good to know,

Cheers,

Jim

In a std 150 you'd barely notice the turbo kicking in, TBH, so if you get a real surge @ 2.5 (ish) revs & you can easily spin the wheels up in 2nd gear (TC switched off, of course), then i'd say it was re-mapped.

The wheel spin up at around 3k in first if i move off slowly then plant my foot and pretty much spins to 5k Second dont get much apart from on the gear change but there's deffinately a kick to the turbo in 2nd and 3rd. Also seems to be alot of power after 4k but i'm assming thats the vvt?

A 1.4 would probably spin up in 1st - True test is in 2nd.  Yes, that kick later on would be the VVT.

A good way to guage it is against other cars etc.  Have you had a play with any other cars on the dual carr private runway?  e.g. Civic Type R's, Clio 172's etc?

If you can keep up with those then it's def been re-mapped. :afro:

would all of these things be dependant on power/torque delivery?

Hi.
Best way to find out is use vagcom and log block 115 which is the turbo MAP requested MBar and Actual MBar.

plum yourself it a boost gauge, i got one for about £15 on ebay.  Plumb it into the dumpvale vacc, i have a powerchips remap and am running 1 bar which i think is about 15psi.  Standard is about 8psi or 0.5 bar.

I'm thinking same thing about my 1.8T buddy. Same year, engine code and turbo [3s] as yours. My car was previously owned by Lincolnshire Police. Am waiting on service history coming from force, to see if anything mentioned in there. Am going to get mine rr'd after oil and filter change, to see what I've got

Obviously i'm probably just hoping here but would be good to know,

Cheers,

Jim
