I recently got a JBL GTO 1004e 4 channel amp which powers 6.5" Infinity Kappa components and a JBL GTO 12" sub.
The Kappa speakers are rated at 90 - 100 RMS and the sub is around 250 - 300 RMS.
I want to know what the best way to set my amp is for both of these.
I have the sub bridged so it gets more power. The Kappa speakers can be run at 2 ohms and I think my amp handles this but there's a special way to wire it up which I have no clue about.
And also how do I go about setting the gains and frequencies for the components and the sub? Each has their own set of gains and frequencies. And both also have the LPF/HPF/mid button.
Ok, best way here is to make sure your HU setting are flat, ie bass 0, treble 0 etc. Then turn your HU to just under 3/4 of the way on the volume. Now make sure your amp gains are turned to minimum.
Firstly take out the RCA's for the sub so now your just left with your Infinity's. With the volume still left on just under 3/4 now start to turn the gain control up slowly on the amp with one of your fav' songs on. Keep turning it until you hear it just start to distort, once you hear it distort wind the gain back a touch.....fronts now sorted!
Secondly. Take the RCA's out for the fronts so now we are just left with the sub. The same as above really, HU just under 3/4's and start turning the gain up slowly. After a while you will hear the sub either distort or 'fart' cracking type noise. Turn the gain down a touch once you hear this.
With the filters. Have the sub on low pass and the Infinitys on mid or high, see which one you preffer, I think I would stick with mid though.
Make sure when setting up you take your car to a car park of an eve' time when its pretty clear as you really dont want complaints from neighbours or thieving ears to hear what you have.
Setting up normally takes me 20 odd mins as i play 2 CD's and check there in no distortion on either.
