G60 Lamnda probe Q
« on: 16 May 2008, 07:53 »
Is this thing actually needed to tune the engine correctly? I have a Jetex system to be fitted to the car. At the moment, it will be fitted on the back of the cat, but I want to put on a tubular manifold and dispense with the cat. But the lamnda probe is fitted into the cat so I need to know what to do with this thing. Can it be just disconnected and not used or does it need to actually be un-installed and other mods done to take it out of the system?

Keep it in the system - it's there to analyse the exhaust gases and feedback loop to the ECU to manage the mixture.

Only an idiot would take it out.

Lose the cat though.

I realise the reason why it is there, but other 8V digis do not use it, hence the reason for the question. I suppose I would need to weld an adaptor into the down pipe.

With a lambda you're running digi II not digi I.  This relies on the lambda, as it's a rather more complex management system.

Don't go kidding yourself that your management is as simple as an 8V digi motor.

It would also hose much more fuel into the engine.

All you need to do is weld in a boss for the lambda.  Why skimp?
