Loads of ideas (again)
« on: 20 May 2008, 22:35 »
Hello, Haven't been here for ages, new job, training, less money, so all project had to come to a halt:(

Any way I have a few dilemas (spelling being one of them)

I still have my 1.6 GTi

Did a sponsered charity run from John 'O' Groats to Lands End (I didn't do all of it, as I couldn't get the time off)  Drove up to meet everyone at the Lake District and on the bumpy A/B roads back down to Lands End, had a great time.

On this trip, there was a 2.8 Capri, a 1.6 Manta (the 1st shape) a 3.2l ex traffic Omega, a track prepared 1.8 16v MK2 and my MK1, I was gob smacked that it beat everything there to easy 80/90mph, had a drag race with the Mk2 on to a dual carriageway, 2nd gear neck and neck, third gaining, into 4th and flashing him outa the way, how happy was I?  Ok I did have to rev it a little harder than normal... (7500rpm) 90+ in third!

Cruising on the motorways suck, its quietest rev is about 4100rpm, which is a little faster than 70 officer, but it is still 'kin noisy.

Anyway...

I dunno whether to stay with a 1.6 and bolt a blower on to it, or the guy with the MK2 16v is willing to swap his engine for a 1.9TSR lump I have kicking about.

mmmm 1.8 bored to 2.0L 16v, should go quite well, or 1.6l with a blower...

Any good/bad points you can think of?

(Loads of technical questions will follow...)

Cheers

I think I'd have to go for the 16v 2l. Smaller engines with blowers seem to have lots of running issues, think Renault5 GTT 1.4, quick as fook but loads of issues with turbos blowing and head gaskets failing. I just think the 16v will be more reliable in the long run.

More and more I'm liking the idea of a mk1 with a 16v engine.
......now officially dubless.
