Noticable difference between 8v and 16v ????????

Hi Guys. new to golf stuff so this might be a silly qurstion but hey - i'm gonna ask it anyway.

I'm looking for a track car with the view to prepping it for next years gti race series.

as a general track car - how much difference is there. is it massive or is it a case of straight line speed and acceleration.

just as a comparable does anybody know the rough 1/4 mile times for both as standard?

i'm just weighing up wether the 16v is worth the extra cash.

my mechanical knowledge is basic but i can do a bit. are the engines massively different to work on and mod?
