i think that trip to newark did some damage to my car :'(
apart from the tappets getting louder i went for a 5 minute drive yesterday to notice the water temp light flashing like crazy and the oil temp at 125deg whats happening any advice welcome

Was it a long trip? If so you probably lost a bit of oil and water. I normally find i loose loads of oil on long trips and me tappits get well loud, but when i top up the oil the go quiet again! Toping up the water should also turn off the flashing light!

Sounds like if your oil is getting that hot it's time for a oil chnage with some pucker oil !

When I first got my GTI the oil tempwas always on the high side - changed it and all good - just a sign of cheap oil i'd say ....

Anyone think different ???

mr hawkins might have the right idea, oil really is the f**kin life blood of these motors mate, if its cheap and old it'll make a huge difference.

give it some new quality fluids all round and see if there's a difference ;)
