I just installed CC in my 07 GTi in about 2 hours, the stalk cost €55 from a german dealer on ebay.de and with vag-com it was not too difficult. Its a great addition for the motorway with speed camera and police.
My car has DSG with paddles so I believe the control unit did not need modification. Cars manufactured after 2006 are supposed to have the wire from the steering control unit to the engine ecu but the correct wire is included in the kit with the instructions.
