My local newspaper has a motoring section on Fridays - and included an article giving sales figures for 3-door hot hatch sales in 07/08. It's not clear how rigidly the figures are kept to 3-door only - might explain the fairly small market share of the Golf:

Focus ST               178
Focus ST2             2383
Focus ST3             2003
Focus ST500           214
Civic Type R           532
Civid Type R GT     4660
Megane 225            172
Megane 225 Cup       56
Megane 225 F1 R26  805
Ibiza 20VT Cupra       48
Ibiza 20VT FR          130
Ibiza Formula Sport 1306
Astra VXR              2008
Golf GTI                1189
Golf R32                 659
GTI Ed30                795

Do they even sell Ibiza's any more? Presumably they will mean Leon.....?
Diamond Black Golf GTI, DSG, Monza IIs, Cruise, MFSW, Rear Tints and Ipod. VRmmmmmmmm!

I like the Civic byt according to Clarkson they are supposed to be wank compared to the old one, which was awesome.

Yea ST's are everywhere now, I don't even look at them anymore

I came from an EP3 Premier Type R to the MKv GTI and i must say the golf is a brilliant all rounder! Although the civic was pretty hard core in that if you wanted to go fast you had to drive it to the limit ! It never got old! The engine was a peach God knows how good the supercharged ones were

Ive test driven the new Civic Type R and I thought it was rubbish.  the main complaint was the dash and the rear spoiler, altho this is obviously shared by all of the new civics.  And it drove just like the breadvan so that does the same for less
