Basically you bought the wrong year mats for your model I think

Best sell your old mats and get the new correct fitting mats for your model year
The lugs changed on all Golfs last year I believe
On new cars they are just round lugs and the mats have round holes and just push on
On older cars they are oval and you twist the lug 90 degrees to secure mat in place
So if anyone is buying mats on E-bay - Check your current fitting and check with the seller
