Acceleration

Right.

I have noticed with my 89 gti that when I’m in 2nd particularly, 3rd gear and try to floor it, the revs do go up but occasionally the power from the engine does not transmit through to the wheels causing hi revs but no acceleration. like it disengages momentarily.

Could this be the clutch on its way out?

Also I have noticed that my accelerator pedal is very very stiff as is the clutch pedal.

sounds like the clutch.

park up and leave the hand brake on and try pulling away in first by easing the clutch pedal up slowly. if the biting point is high it could be in need of replacement

yeh deffo clutch, costly change unless you can do it yourself. but dnt buy cheap, get an expensive one if you can, makes for a better bite and longer lasting
