changes to car during and after remap/coilovers
« on: 01 April 2008, 15:49 »
thought i'd post this because it may be of interest...

i got my car returned to stock on friday for chopping in against my amg, and am just reporting the difference in mpg i am now getting.

for the 13000 miles my car was remapped by apr, the consumption averaged at 26.3...have driven it the same since it was reset and its now doing 31mpg....slower car, but big difference...

car still moves nicely, doesnt grunt like it used to and the differnence is night and day, but the mpg is significantly better unmapped.

also, the eibach coilovers are off as well. The car is higher and handling is affected to its detriment. it pitches and rolls more, and doesnt feel as planted. Ride quality is near on the same, so if i ever get another, coilovers will be number one on my list of things to do.

my eibach pre-street s are now for sale if anyone is interested..they cost me about 600 quid...they are untracked and in perfect condition and are cheap at 350 quid.

pm me for details...

amg comes wednesday.

cant wait

....Interesting to read the mpg difference but not surprising as performance = petrol. When I eventually sell my GTI I expect and hope it will be to an enthusiast who doesn't want me to replace suspension and brakes etc back to standard. If I was buying and I test drove a standard GTI and one modified which handled better, which would I choose? - It's a no-brainer really

I see your point there RR. but in all honesty anyone who wants a modded car would surely want to make the changes themselves. I know I would, as half the fun is finding and installing the bits.

Hence why I think modded cars will depreciate quicker than standard ones :nerd:

....I'm sure you are right, R32UK. I guess I won't be finding out about my car for a good few years yet, by which time the purchase price will be pretty low anyway. Meanwhile I shall continue enjoying driving to the full and look after her..

modded cars depreciate faster than a non modded car is too broad a brush to put on it.

all you do by modding a car is narrow the market for resale.

sensible recognised mods will be actively sort after, cosmetic mods are a matter of taste so limit the market dramaticially. i got an amazing part ex price for mine, on the condition i returned to stock. Awesome did all the work for me again and i even reflashed it back to stock so as to avoid any problems at all....dont want it bouncing back on me a week down the line.

i didnt even think to offer it privately, because a/ the process takes a while b/ the px price was as good as i could expect retailing it myself c/ i hate tyre kickers d/ i'm a busy man.

just do what i did..return to stock ( bar map, most people would prefer it i reckon ) as there will be no difference in price come trade in with your mods on, and keep for next project or sell on.

vw wanted mine back stock or they wouldnt deal, so i had too.

good news is the coilovers are provisionally sold to a well known member here

I did the same with my last GTi, returned it to stock, I think the salesman was a bit gutted he was looking forward to driving a stage 2'd GTi, but I got a decent px/deal on the ED30
