GTi or GT 170?

Theres several such discussions on this very subject...i toyed with the same idea,...but the biggest issue for me was that the interior of the 170 was specked very low imho...there was no arm rest, or dual climate.  From the inside you could have been in any other Golf. 

I decided against the diesel on that basis, plus the fact that I THOUGHT i was going to get at least 30MPG in the GTi.  I am not.

Gti economy sucks big time...i get about 22mpg for the same journey type as yourself.

But its a great drive, what a fabulous way to waste money 

How on earth do you get it that low   On a 20 mile country run yesterday, i drove it as hard as the roads would allow, staying in 4th most the time, driving hard out of corners, braking late etc and my average......31mpg.  The same run driven economically never gives less than 37mpg

I've had 2 TDI 140's with DSG and am now very happy with my ED30 DSG.

Hi Winrya....see my thread on economy...I recently uncovered (today actually) that if i drive with the ac off, heated seats off and the 1000W subwoofer in the boot off my economy on a the same journey returns 27.5-29.5....

Dont ask me to explain it, but the toys will be used sparingly from now on.

I havent been on a long motorway drive yet, but plan to very soon to check out how much it improves.
