Monza Wheel Rep Help
« on: 07 April 2008, 18:50 »
I would ideally like some 18" Monza ii alloys but don think i can afford the real mccoy. Anyway, in terms of reps is any considered the best quality? I have seen the rochford tyres ones referred to a bit but I have also found these......

http://www.performancealloys.com/details.asp?procedure=wheel&id_wheels='281b'&id_wheels_manufacturers='Replicas'&id_wheels_sizes='18x7.5'&price='135'&permission=822778558

They have the correct size (7.5) instead of the usual 8" on most reps.

Any input would be really appreciated. I only bought my car yesterday but can t wait to put some Monza II's on.

Also, what is a good tyre choice for resonable money?

Cheers

Tom

Welcome to the forum Tom

If you are looking for some decent, affordable tyres then the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's have a good write up and are better than some of the well known name tyres.

I've got the Monza II reps from Rochford tyres. They are the darker inserts like the originals and also have the diamond-cut polished finish. I paid £240 delivered for a set and paired them with a set of Goodyear Eagle F1's for £380.

It does not state what the "ET" is on those wheels. I believe the ET for the GTI is ET51 and the Rochford ones are ET45 which is within the range (ideally you should not go below ET40).

Heres a pic of mine:

I'd be interested to see what those from performancealloys.com will look like on the car....they do look more like the originals and better reps than the Rochford ones!

PS. My reps have started getting the dreaded worms around the edges. At the moment they are not too noticeable but the process has started (only had them 6 months!)

Tom, bearing in mind most the issues a lot of us have had with the OEM Monzas, and Maximus's experience with the reps, it's a done deal, and if they corrode like the OEM's, lob 'em and buy another set, you will be quids in

Yeah, think I m going to go down the replica route as they seem to corrode whether replicas or not. Any sensible person probably would nt put something on the car which will corrode but they just suit the mkv so well. I m just not sure whether to go down the rochford tyres route or the performancealloy ones - it seems no one has tried the latter (which is a shame as they seem to be the correct size). However, they do seem to be more expensive (£130 a wheel).

Maxamus, how have you found it has effected the cars handling/ride? Also, how heavy are your reps and what is the quality like - have they buckled at all? I m putting them on my gt tdi and dont want to turn it into the bone shaker like my old civic type r. I would also like to keep my 50mpg! The £380 was just for the tyres I assume (on top of the the cost of the alloys?)

cheers

With the cost of Reps that cheap it makes me think twice about getting my OEM's refurbed now!  Might just chuck em on ebay and see what they fetch!

It has affected the ride quality because the tyres are more lower profile now so i feel more of the uneveness on the road (i went from 17" to 18" at the sametime). Im not sure how much they weigh but ive been told they are more heavier than the OEM's. All in all the ride quality isnt bad and is comfortable. No buckling noticed.

Ye the £380 was just for the tyres. Alloys were £240. Total cost £620.

I think when these reps from rochford are fooked im gonner get those "performancealloys.com" ones you have listed above because they look much better!
