i dont really know what im doing
« on: 19 March 2008, 18:09 »
ok, ive decided, that i really need to own  a mk2 golf. mk3's are a bit boring, and mk1's are too expensive. ive about 2k to spend on one, and ideally i'd like a convertible, i like the wind in my hair and all that. thing is, i dont know what to go for... i'd like a 16v, as i may as well go the whole hog and get the best, but do these come in convertible? im a bit clueless as you may see, but im young and eager to learn. also, would i be wasting my time with a clipper? they are much cheaper on insurance, but i guess that's the only plus.  my shopping list for my golf is, bearing in mind this is my ideal:

convertible
16v
leather
under £2k

i'd love some advice

They didn't do a convertable in the Mark 2, only Mark 1 and 3/4.

VW did however make the Mark 1 convertable up until around 93 ish, as i have seen some Sportline's on an L. Only in 8v though.

So if you want a rag top and you don't like mark 3's then it will have to be a mk1, but as above they are not 16v.

You should be able to get a decent Mk2 16v though for £2k

they didnt do a MK4 convertible either, like the late MK1 cabby it was just a facelift of the earlier model, so kinda like MK1.5/MK3.5 ;)

Alllow convertibles, you just loose handling because they are less rigid... especially on mk1/clippers. Go for a mk2 16V, the best chassis out of the lost and great fun to drive. I've had MK1's 2's 3's and 4's and still own a Mk2 16V... wot does that tell you?

Bought mine 2 yrs ago for £950 in good condition... now looks great and worth £2k. Look around and choose wisely...
