Hello to all and advice if possible
« on: 20 March 2008, 14:50 »
Hi guys and girls im seeking expert knowledge and have been told this is the place to get it?

First off I have used the search and got plenty of useful pointers but I thought if your feeling generous you wont mind going over some bits and bobs, I appreciate any help in advance.

I have recently bought a mk2 1.8 8v on an F plate, a good solid body and a well maintained car. I want to make a track car of her as I have a Leon cupra R as my everyday pocket rocket but I dare not put her on a track unless its empty.

What I need to know is what are the best modifications engine wise I can do to get the best from her, I have been told she has been chipped but I’m dubious, I have a supercharger from a mini cooper s at hand and am not afraid to use it, I want to keep budget minimal as with the cupra it enjoys spending money, I may be able to also source a 1.9tsr bottom end for next to nothing. Again thanks for your help in advance.

welcome friend

general starting points would normally be:

2.0l bottom end
zorst, ported manifold, or stainless 421.
p&p head/big valve head, depending on budget.
cam etc..

don't forget a good service/rr tune up will often free up horses for next to nothing.
