mk3 16 valve jump into mk2
« on: 03 April 2008, 09:46 »
hay iv currently got a 1.6 mk 2 jetta and compared to my old golf 1.8 its a bit gutless realy, im looking into getting a mk3 valver for the engine and gear box and transplantin it over, my plan was to use the entire mk3 engine and wiring loom using the standard ecu, is there any big problems that u think i would encounter along the way or would it just involve a lot of work to splice the 2 looms together,
Thanks 4 the help

Hiya,
Are you quite handy with the spanners an wires then?

It certainly can be done but you will need more than the engine/box/loom as you will need to convert you car to run injection so you will need fuel pumps/lines possible a gti fuel tank to but not too sure.
Idealy removing the mk3 loom yourself and labelling everything as you go could be an idea as wiring is going to be your biggest issue even if you try splicing the original loom with the new one!!

The ABF engine itself will bolt straight into your jetta using original mounts, you will want to use your gearbox or idealy a mk2 16v one inless you want to convert to hydraulic clutch which means changing pedal box and modifying the bulk head in order to run a mk3 gearbox.

have a look at Toyotecs guide
http://www.edition38.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=97434&hl=abf%20conversion&st=40   might help you out a bit - i realise its for a injection car but should give you an idea of what you should expect to have to do.
