« on: 16 February 2008, 11:40 »
Hi Guys her indoors 16v has a very occasional start up prob the car starts runs drives spot 1st turn of the key,but if you fluff up the 1st start ie flick key back before shes kicked into life the car turns over and over before it starts just seems a bit odd as other than that its great it doesn`t missfire cough splutter feck all just the above little prob.Does anyone know what I should be checking or anyone else had this happen?? cheers

I don't know for sure, but I think this is just mild flooding, and quite normal. It used to happen to my Mk4, if you fluffed up the first start e.g. the key slips out your fingers, it then needed a several second hold on the key to get it to fire. Oddly my mk2 16v isn't like that though, although the missus focus is.

If your still not happy...  Spark plugs are critical to good starting, so I would have a look at those first (esp as they are sooo cheap)!

Thanks Dave thought it was something allong the lines of flooding but didnt think a quick burst would cause it,but it does take ages to fire up so will change plugs and check timing etc whilst I`m at it..

another idea which is often overlooked is that because 16v are getting on a bit now and that a hugh amount of them have had or still have 3rd party alarms and imobilisers fitted there was a trend to bypass them and do away with them all together when they started to play up. I've found that in this situation the connections and wiring isnt always 100% spot on and all i can sometimes be is a dodgy connection.

I had a similar issue on my digi mk2, solved it with a new ecu temp sender :)
