hello
changed the drivebelt tentioner on the mk4 1.8t as the other one was chewed up and burnt around one edge. (The drive belt flew off too)
Total cost about £80 for the tentioner and belt.
Can anyone explain why this happend? The damage on the tentioner was on the closest edge to the engine.
Once i replaced the tentioner the belt kept on slipping away from the engine so i used a
washer spacer behind the bottom tentioner bolt to make it run straight with the belt (now the belt doesnt slip away). Anyone with me so far?

Is this common or did i forget to refit a part
