You can fit a MK2 motor to the MK1 linkage iirc but you'll need to mkae a MK2 plug fit your loom as well.  Not a big deal as I think all the wire colours match up but this will need a relay as mk1 fuseboxes have less oomph.

Trouble is it can be tricky to get the mk2 motor to fit, I found a MK2 motor fitted straight on my cabby, but other tintop owners have said it wont fit the linkage without some modifications and/or swappage of parts.  The loom part is easy, chop the MK2 plug off and crimp spade terminals on the wires, then pop them into the MK1 plug matchin the wire colours :)

Dont think you would need to mess about with a relay?

i think i screwed mine up as i did the mod and put a mk2 mtr in her and then turned her over, and the wipers came on, smoke came out from behind the dash and they are now stuck with no power....oops , in fairness all i did was make a new loom so that they can be connected with spade connectors :lipsrsealed: :embarassed:

Might be a knackered wiper motor? Cheap to get hold of from a breakers yard. I might even have a spare one myself.

If not, try oiling the wiper arm mechanism and the pivots that the wiper arms are attached to.

Go onto fleabay and search for a shop called 'Not Escorts'...they do a Mk2 motor that has the wires allready sorted for you to join onto your loom...I think they are £25+p&p.
If you are feeling lucky you can strip the existing motor and re-grease everything as that works, but from my experience the Mk2 motor does things better
