Hi. Over the weekend I decided to take the plunge and change the timing belt on my 8v kjet which all seemed to go OK. The only problem is now the engine doesn't idle properly. It starts, seems to settle OK but once you rev it and release the throttle it cuts out. Any suggestions? Is there something that I may have forgotten (as I'm new to this)?

Cheers,

Si

Have you double checked you've not pulled a vac hose off by accident?

I've checked all the vacuum hoses are secure, particularly the vacuum advance on the dizzy as I had removed it for better access.

The HT leads were a bit rough so I replaced them today along with the spark plugs but that didn't help. Once I turned the engine over and let it run for a while, I removed no. 1 spark plug to check it's condition (bearing in mind it is brand new) - covered in soot but not damp with fuel and it didn't smell when I removed it.

It's hard to describe but it's just not running right. It clumsily ticks over and then really struggles up the revs when you give it some throttle, then cuts out. Could this be a timing problem? The engine was setup perfectly before I started meddling so I'm reluctant to fiddle further before I understand what's going on.

Thanks.

timing, are you sure you got all the marks lined up right, the marks on the flywheel are a bit@h easy to get mixed up from the tdc mark and the 5 degrees before, also the disi from the intermediate tends to move a couple of cogs on tensioning the belt, took me 3 attemps to mine the way it should be, you can do any adjustments with just the top timing cover and flywheel plug off, rj has a thread on setting the timing up, works a treat, any probs, you know we're all here for you!!!!

For future reference, the timing belt was one tooth out and once I'd got that right the timing wanted setting up. Now runs perfectly. Thanks guys!
