Right this was what was wrong with my 1st AUM ECU:
When I sent my ECU to DNA tuning, he didnt remap it, he just chipped my ECU and my engine didnt like it, kept throwing up loads of fault codes, my ecu kept saying it was over boosting and then cut the boost at 4k so I had a choice to make, keep it at higher power and have no boost over 4k or put it back to standard so I changed it for a standard AUM 180 ECU, clocks and changed the immobiliser chip in my key.
So instead of flogging the ECU on ebay to some poor sod who would buy it and have the same problems I deceided "why should I pay for a map and not get it" so I got in touch with the tuner explained the situation and sent him back the ECU on wed, he received it Thursday and then has sent it back to me with this reply via email:
Hi Ash,
ECU on it's way back to you fixed, I'd advise you keep your "expert" mate away from it! The fault code EEPROM error refers not to the EPROM(note one E) or chip as he likes to call it but the tiny memory area on the small 8 pin chip that is written on power down from RAM in the processor, if the unit is incorrectly powered on or up this can occur or if someone tries to read or write it and fails....! The only way to correct this is wipe the ECU and restore to a factory state then rewrite base settings then it rewrites it’s EEPROM correctly after flash on power down from RAM which is what I did yesterday.
Cheers Just wanted to know if there are any people out there who know about maps and stuff and actually think this guy is talking sense or not. And as far as him saying my "expert" mate anybody who was at Brands the other night and met Big Ben and Little James know they know their stuff. By what it says above does it sound like he has now flash loaded a map onto the ECU or just replaced the chip - this is so confusing!!!
Just another chapter in the many saga's that is my mk4
