Newbie with a mk2 Gti 16v

Hi All,

Just registerd on the site as I've just bought a nice 1988 White Golf Gti 16v...

It's only had 2 former keepers, runs well and is the perfect base for the project I've always wanted to do.

There are a few things that I need to do to get it up to a good starting point and this brings me to my 1st question...

I want to give it a good service and I'm going to order the parts off performance gti - looking to replace air filter but may replace with a k&n panel filter (opinions please) and the normal plugs dizzy cap and rotor arm..but my main thought is what engine oil to use, the car will do around 1k a year, and these will maily be track days but im not goint to strip it etc..its going to be a good standard looking gti with well thought out engine mods over the coming years..

Anyways, I have been given some technical advice from Castrol and they have recommended Edge 5w40 fully synthetic oil...what do other people use? engine is on 147k so wana treat it as well as I can :)

Thankyou all!

Dinky
