Multifunc steering wheel missed off order

I'm due to pick up my edition 30 next week, and got a call from the dealer after they discovered on delivery they'd missed off asking for the multifunction steering wheel as asked for. 

I won't say who to save their blushes.

They *did* order the highline computer (as a separate item rather than the thing you get automatically with the multifunc wheel).

Could anyone tell me if the ordinary steering wheel has paddles, and what things I'd not be able to do other than work the stereo from the wheel? I was at some stage going to get hands free working with the car but I could live without it.

How do you use the highline computer without the buttons on the wheel?

They are going to let me know if they'll be able to retrofit what I asked for, but if there are paddles on the wheel, I might be tempted to get a cash refund for the option...

You get paddles on the wheel for changing gear as standard with the DSG ED30

I didn't bother with the MFSW as I knew I was going to change the stereo and wouldn't have bothered trying to match in the bluetooth or the volume control with the aftermarket HU as it is a touchscreen anyway.

the steering wheel looks better without all the buttons scattered all over it aswell (simple is better). also why would you need the cd buttons on the steering wheel? its only half an arms length to the cd player anyways  lazyness

Ah yes, lazy it maybe, but some boffin geeks have proved that having the controls on the steering wheel means that you are less likely to have an accident at speed due to not having to take your eyes off the road for a split second. Personally if someone has a crash because they couldn't control the car for the brief period of time that their eyes are off the road - shouldn't be on it in the first place!

Well the paddles where the main thing for me. I did want to be able to adjust the stereo without moving my hand off the wheel (I come from a car that had the stereo controls on the wheel and it's really nice not having to look for the knob on the stereo)

Apart from the buttons, is there any difference to the wheel in terms of material, or 'niceness'? I've only seen the multifunc wheel not the standard one.

I've got highline and no MFSW - easy to operate - use your fingers on the stalk intead of thumbs on the wheel.

I have just retro fitted the mf buttons to my DSG GTi. I only have a midline display but had the paddles. I was a simple swap, I bought the buttons off ebay for 35 euro. The buttons for the 3C Passat are the same as the golf. I can now use vol +/-, mute and go through the midline menus on the display. I cant use the radio functions line cd track change etc. If you have highline then I imagine every thing should just work when you swap the buttons.

Does the stalk do the volume as well or is it just for controlling the highline?

(I'll find out on Monday either way - I've accepted the car anyway.)
