WTF is wrong with this?
« on: 23 December 2007, 23:41 »
Help! This part of my car has been like this for awhile now, just want to know WTF it is and why it is not plugged in correctly? It's got like 1 (or 2) wires connected when it looks like it should have a lot more than that connected...

Looks like an after market alarm control module. Has it got an alarm fitted?

Might be worth having it properly removed, and an up to date one installed, before it starts to create a major headache!

Obviously previous owner had problem with alarm/immobiliser and the wire looped into the connector is bypassing the immobiliser part of the system.

Well if that's an alarm it's news to me!
I have no fobs or anything, my guess is it's busted and was disconnected.  :undecided:

Well, can anyone suggest a cheap alarm that's easy to fit? I was going to make a basic one from a circuit diagram I found on the net.

Yep it's the original factory alarm. Badged as quantum, but in fact made by Scorpion. My unit was dead when i bought it, but managed to find exactly the same model, new old stock, with fobs on ebay for £20 !!
Computer games don't affect kids, I mean if Pac Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music.

When i got my golf it was a non runner.  Alarm system had gone up the spout it was a cat 1 alarm and immobiliser. Was a nightmare to remove properly.

You get what you pay for with alarms / immobilisers.  So my advice is go for the best you can afford.  Oh, and make sure its installed properly.   If its thatcham approved (cat1 or 2)  you need a certified installer to fit it, otherwise should your pride n joy goes missing, the first thing your insurance company will want to see is a certificate of fitment!!!
