Seems mine was on bog standard oil hence the 9k 1st service requirement. So had a wee moan at the dealer - 'now when i bought the car it was my understanding it should be on long life oil - service due between 12 to 18k. So how come it's 9k? Can you check please?'

Got the car back - we've put in long life oil now sir and readjusted the computer for long life' ie there's a good chance when every new ed30 left the factory they built the car with cheepo stuff.

Ask and you shall get......................

?

I thought every car came from the factory with LongLife
(as until it gets to the dealer they have no idea what service interval strategy its gonna have)

Therefore if you pick regular it gets changed to reg oil at the first service

but as far as up until the first oil change they both run longlife oil.....

I stand to be corrected

When the car reaches the dealers anything is possible.

It is true that they all come out the factory with longlife. Question is why whould the dealers have dumped the oil for cheap stuff?

How can they tell if it was long life or standard oil anyway? It just looks the same after 9k miles in the car surely? Do they test it or something?

Sniff it, take a swiril in the mouth and breath through it - easy!

seriously - will be in the computer setting if they had to change it.

What do you mean by cheap stuff? Long life oil is not just more expensive, its has completely different characteristics

Personally i do not want my Ed30 on the long life servicing. I would rather have my oil changed at 10k max. If you do some research you will find long life servicing is not recommened for every application. Long distance driving with realitively low rev's is its main market, where as i imagine most ED30 drivers give it a bit more revs from now and then.

Anyway, not saying one is better than the other, just saying there is a lot of information out there giving you something to base your decision on
