few questions on my potential new project regarding paintwork

ive found this car what i can buy and have delivered for £140 (£40 for delivery, hoping it wont go over £100 lol)

yes, its probably one of the most minging chavved mk2's ever :embarassed: i have a plan tho

-oz 16's, will also fit vaux so sell to a chav with a corsa for £50-£100 depending on condition
-Spoiler, ebay as fits mk2 golf, saxo, corsa and others... £20?
-nasty blue steering wheel £15 with golf mk2 boss
-bonnet vent, rip off and throw away
-sunstrip, rip off and throw away

if mah maths is correct, i reckon id have a free car as a base

waiting for some pics of the damage on rear panel, reckon filler and a can of paint can sort that so its presentable

problem is, the sh!tty pattern on the side has been painted on, my idea is to get some rubbing compound and polish it away? any thoughts on this? would i need to w/d it off with some fine grit then polish

also the big bumpers and sideskirts have been painted black, rub it off with a sponge and thinners?

its also supposedly lowered, i asked how much, the guy said 60mm at a guess (he took it as part ex for another car)

If those graffics weren't painted on then I reckon you'd be on to a winner but as they are I think you're going to struggle to get them off.

Picking up chaved motors is a good way to go as long as they are easily put back to standard.

you might struggle with those graphics...

also as a 1.3 it'd have had the b0ll0x revved out of it... everything points to that.... drilled discs etc etc etc... might need a lot of tlc in the engine bay?

I don't think those are drilled discs as I couldn't see a caliper. I suspect they're those dust covers that look like drilled discs!

yeah, the rear disc things are basically just spacers but made to look like a real disc lol

my idea for the engine was to rebuild the top end with a new head gasket, regrind the valves and new seals etc, clean the carb out or possibly go weber, and ofcourse give it a full service, engine flush and new oil and filter, replace coolant, spark plugs and leads, fuel filter and replace pads/discs as necessary.

im an apprentice mechanic so wanna practice lol, and ive got my trusty hayes manual still from my old 1.6

me main concern is the paintwork tho, i was wondering if anyones had a similar problem? my theory is i could sort it with some rubbing compound and a polishing mop, gonna ask the guy in the paintshop where i work on monday see what he has to say lol

umm rub i down and go for matt black dude would look awesome

you'd need a mop to get it off if it is painted on and trust me it can take a while! i'd suggest giving it to a pro and get them to wet sand it off, then mop it up to get the paint nice again. junk all the other crap and it'll look ok!

another golf thats had loads of cash spent (well too much!!) and is worth more in parts than whole.... good way to get a project base cheap tho
