Mk II woes
« on: 15 March 2004, 23:21 »
Hi,

I've got two probs and could do with some insight/guidance.

MkII Golf 16v 89 G-Reg

1) No reverse, have had the bushes and ball replaced, this brought back reverse for a few months (although the selection of 1/2/R was very hit and miss), but now it's gone again. On having a look under the car the shift rod appears to have a very slight bend in it. I would expect this to be straight. Could this be the cause of my woes, (or is it likely to be something else instead/as well)

2) Leaking PAS. My PAS leaks from the passenger side boot, when on full lock it spews out fluid. Only advice I seem to get is change the rack, I understand this is an envolved job, but why can't my rack be fixed, I'd expect that it's a seal or o-ring that's gone.

I'm not mechanically minded but am learning fast, am I going to find these jobs fairly stright forward, or should I find someone to do the work for me.

Or does anyone know anyone either near Farnham/Alton or Egham/Staines that could undertake the work without costing the earth.

Thanks in advance.
