Idle Screw Won't Go back In

Can't believe I'm posting this...  :embarassed:

Working on my 1991 16v... I removed the idle screw to clean it and now when I go to put it back in, it will only wind in four or five turns and is very tight - When I took it out, I could do it by hand, now I need a screwdriver  !!

All I did was clean it with carb cleaner and then squirt a generous amount into the screw hole. I don't think im cross-threading it

Advice and abuse both equally welcome (so long as theres some advice mixed in  :undecided: )

can you see anything wrong in the hole.
I would not worry. The main thing is does it allow you to change the idle when you turn it.

So how tight are peoples idle screws?  Perhaps there was loads of oily gunk in there and as I've cleaned it out perhaps thats why it feels so tight - I used to be able to undo it by hand.

Anyone?

Is the seal on the screw ok? Maybe put some lube on it and try again.

The screw doesn't work anymore - it has no effect on changing the idle at all, even though it more or less screws all the way in!?!   :cry:

Any ideas?  Is it just the rubber grommet around the screw?

possibly, have you got it screwng in ok now? give the o ring a bit of grease, it might help it seal

just an o-ring round the screw.  sounds like you need a new one, bad news is they're expensive from VW! you can get a set of o'rings from chav-fords, with a bit of trial & error you'll find one that fits.
