Tell me why the Mk5 is besterest
As with most things it is an evolution and improvement of the original. The styling and attention to detail simply carry it off for me. The front looks more aggressive than the chrome of the R32, whilst the rear of the R32 looks awesome. The MKI looks a little too boxy from some angles. The MKII looks lovely and VW got it right. The MKIII for me didn't do enough to evolve the car overall and with the lacklustre engines and heavy chassis blunted the performance and damaged the integrity of the Icon. The MKIV styling is better and shows that VW were getting back on the right track. The build quality was spot on although yet again the suspension wasn't quite there and the 1.8T only got into it's stride in it's last year. Then the MKIV R32 came along and showed that VW were getting it right although the suspension proved a little too hard for some, the styling again was good. With the MKV VW showed that they had put more attention to detail back into the fun factor of driving and the GTI/R32 epitomise that. The quality isn't a step forward though, just a sideways step and a compromise against costs, which I believe will get worse with the MKVI when it finally turns up.
Please tell me if I'm wrong and again all this is IMO
