Well, taking the head off isnt really an option, im out on family duties tonite, then working until 2 tommorow, then leaving about 5. I also need to find time to pack and to fit a new caliper on the daily in there somewhere  :grin:
Thanks for all the tips though guys, gonna find time to work them all into my schedule. Head will be coming off in june whatever, be it for P&P and bvh action, or for 8 more valves  :lipsrsealed:

ok, so i drained the coolant out of the top of the engine (undid front hose from block to rad and the one that goes to heater matrix). spun the engine over a few timeswith king lead disconnected. Then wd40'd and oiled the bores. Good plan?
or should i get dad to put in some coolant to stop any corrosion in the waterways?

leave the coolant system empty,    thatway water cant weep into the cyinders
all the VW's have gone bar 1.
