I LOVE MY GOLF SO PLEASE HELP
« on: 13 October 2007, 11:51 »
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!?? I have a Golf MK3 P reg 96 model, i have had it for a week and it is causing me so many problems.
first of all the heater has been bypassed and the MOT report says it could possibly be leaking, (could it be that the thermostat has been taken out). Also the control knob for switching  between hot and cold air has been locked. i have had a look behind the controls and thought it was a fault with the cog not being in place. However after getting the cog in the right position, after endless attempts i later realised its not just that. The cable that is pulled by the knob is very tight and every time the cog is put into place and the heat control turned on it just comes out of place again!! (could something be missing, or has someone tighten the heat control cable??)
Secondly the central locking has also given up. The doors are now not being looked from one side...is there a fuse for the central locking??
please can someone help as I have more problems with my lovely golf but cannot go on for ever....
thanks

Hey wellcome try searching in the MKIII or MKII sections for problems you will find asnswers there already and suggestions. I'm sure this will get moved into garage or MKIII section so more owners can help you out.

Most of your problems sound minor and can be sorted out if its only parts that have failed.
Just to get you started type "heater matrix" or over "heating" in the option above you SEARCH function.

i can't really help you as i don't know mk3's too well, but on mk2's if the cable has a kink in it, it will be very stiff and this might be part of the problem.
if the heater has been bypassed and is leaking then chances are its a heater matrix and is quite a long job, but not overly hard depending on how clued up you are with tools.
again, not sure on this but if the door handles are anything like corrado's and passats then there is an electric set up that controls the central locking. my passat will unlock the doors from the passenger door, but won't lock them. i'm assuming a new handle should sort this as its specific to that door, a fuse would be fused to the whole assembly.
have a search in the mk3 section for more help.
