mk1 16v conversion

Hi guys sorry to ask the same questions as probably 1000 others, iam fitting a 9a corrado engine and box  into a mk1 for track use only, im using bike carbs and a tubular exhaust manifold i have a couple of questions, i have heard that using the 1.8 16v inlet cam is a good mod is this true, secondly some people say not to use the box why? standard ecu or not? is there a link you can give me to a good conversion page.

iirc the inlet cams are a bit more aggressive in the kr, you can also run 2 kr exhaust cams with a little bit of modding for a more aggressive profile.

i havnt a clue how to do all this though so its best to wait for someone who does!!

the inlet cam on a 9a is reigned in to save the cat, which is why the 9a only makes 136 bhp when the Kr does 139!  Also the reason they say not to use the gearbox is because its an 02a cable shift and so need custom mounts plus a cable shifter & hydro box or a seat hydro->cable adaptor.  So just fit your old gearbox or another MK1/2 020 box as its a direct swap

i might be wrong but i think the ratios for the original 8v g'box aren't really suited to the revvy 16v motor?!! mk2 16v g'box would probs be best if what i'm told is true?!

I was chatting to a knowledable chap from clubgti (toyotec) he told me a MK1 box would be great for a 16v
If you can wait half a year I'll tell you myself becasue ive got this conversion underway as we speak

quality mate, just thought it was worth a mention!!  am also doing the 16v twin 40 conversion but have opted for the 16v g'box! wish ad kept the old one now then as it had all the mfa gubbins!!!!  hindsight eh? "the only exact science"!!!   best of luck with it all, the engine i have found is the easy part!! bodywork is a pig!!! :

yeah tell me about it, mine would be done now if it wasn't for the great big rust holes underneath
