Carbon Fibre Scratch Guards (door scoops)
« on: 22 September 2007, 09:23 »
I have made moulds of the above.

Anyone intrested?

These can be made in PURE carbon fibre, vacuum bagged, epoxy resisn and then 2k UV lacquer.

PM if intrested.

No intrest means i will bin the moulds (pointless making any if they dont sell)

(Mods, feel free to move if you want, but these are just for MK2 and thought it best here)

thanks

i will post pics as soon as i find the lead for the digi camera (grrr)

door scoops (scratch guards) are for the bits under the door handles.

just loosen off the door handle, slide these in, tighten up and their you go.

well 2 ways of doing them.

wet layup using 1 layer of CF (plain or twill) and backed with CSM. Thats the cheapest way of doing it.

or

2 layer of Carbon Fibre (twill backed with plain) vacuum bagged with epoxy resisn and then clear coated. More expensive.

But you do get what you pay for.

Wet will be around the £15

Bagged around £20-£25.

Gets cheaper if i make 8 moulds and do em in one hit, rather than 2 at a time.

As for bonnets.

Last person who did em went bust because no owners willing to pay the price for quality.

And in the end, thats what counts. You get what you pay for.

A PURE carbon fibre bonnet (single skin) would be around the £400 mark, the ones you see on ebay are Carbon Fibre backed with CSM and the frame made out of CSM. This makes it nearly the same weight as the OE bonnet.
