Rattle Rattle
« on: 24 February 2004, 18:56 »
Does anybody know how to stop your door cards from rattling? especially the rear ones on two door mk3s.

I think this has been mentioned b4 but i'm gonna ask again.

I'm gonna take them off to have a look-see, is there anything i should know?

Cheers!

I find this a problem too, i was intending to take the cards off and put them back, tightening everything up and maybe applying some sticky stuff in places, mastik or glue or something.  The biggest rattle i get is from the front door lock pins and the plastic surround, i have to drive everywhere with the doors locked.

Straying from the point a bit, i notice your car description Kingy, i am thinking about lowering my Mk3 and wondered if you're pleased with your set up, handling and ride quality etc, also how much did you spend?  Cheers.

I've got a similar rattle inside the drivers door, also a very slight rattle coming for the dashboard - sounds like behind the dials.

Any ideas would be appreciated

i've got a slight rattle over on the passenger side somewhere.. thingk t could be the door card too.. got a feeling the glove box vibrates as wel

in other cars i've heard of people shoving cut off bits of foam in there and reattaching the door cards again.. might be worth a shot if you're sure its that..

but had a similar thing on my polo if the stereo was too loud where passenger site panel itself (on the outside) would vibrate.. it sounds the same.. could just put my finger on the panel from the outside and it would stop doing it.

Costs a bit of cash and alot of time but if you dynamat the whole car or as much as possible reattach all the door cards and dash with foam more clips and glue you can get a rattle free zone! Change all the bushes to and get that new car sound and feel all over again!

Cheers for the response people.

Just gonna reply in one messg.

jte, i get the door lock pin rattle too, drives me mad!
i've looked for thicker ones at shows but can't find any anywhere, just gonna keep looking, let us know if you have any results or ideas.

As for my mota i ended up spending quite a bit, the wheels were ?729 with tyres, (cheapo kumho ones) locking nuts and balanced from Autosport In Bolton (best price i could find in the country).

I bought and had the suspension fitted at AMD in Bicester Oxfordshire This was ?705 in total. The susp kit (SSK sport kit) was ?560. New Corrado bump stops on the rear (?35) and Vr6 top mounts on the front (?35) and the rest (?75) was labour and  suspension/wheel geometry setting on a beissparth aligner.

I know i could have bought the susp kit for less but AMD are close to me and they know their stuff and thought it better if they do it rather than me or any other local garage... blah blah.

Yeah, i'm happy with it, it handles much better, theres practically no wallow and it looks so much better. The ride was very different at first cos i had them fit the wheels at the same time and i must say on bumpy roads it got quite anoying cos there aint much give, but i'm used to it now and would'nt change it.

It was alot of money but i've wanted to do something like this for ages, i just had to get me wallet oot!

Overseer, might try the foam option, got plenty at work.

I dont think the stereo helps matters either.

All in all it sounds like abit of work is involved, see what happens.

hhhmmmmm, must start saving for new suspension i think.  I've heard good things about amd from various people, may get in touch with them and see what they can do.  They are a bit of a trek from where i live so i suppose it would be more economical for me if they chipped it at the same time.........

I thinks a rollover on the lottery tomorrow, must get a ticket!

Maybe i will try and solve the rattling things first, as i guess they will only seem worse with harder suspension on all the shoddy roads round here.
