1272cc alloy rocker cover
« on: 16 January 2007, 07:50 »
just bought a 1.3 1986 Golf for spares and it has a rather nice alloy rocker cover on it. appears to be a quality item with the VW logo cast into it. any ideas what it came off or is it an aftermarket part?

if the rocket cover is like mine then it is standard and has been cleaned.

(New to this forum)
Any ideas on how to get the rocker cover on my mum's 1991 Ryder to lift off? I've got a fresh gasket lined up, removed the 3 bolts and rubber things (not in bad nick) and the cover doesn't want to go anywhere! Does anyone have a picture of the underneath of a (clean-ish) cover? If I was to use a piece of wood up the side of the head (distributor end) and hit it from below, would the gasket let the cover go? How thick is the metal the cover is made from (what risk have I of distorting it)?

Thanks in advance.
James

never had the pleasure of doing it myself, but its probably the old gaskett just being old and sticky. give it a whallop with a rubber mallet!
