Centreing friction disc on a 020, help!
« on: 18 August 2007, 19:00 »
okay, so i bunged the friction plate off my old engine into the flywheel of my new one, went to tighten the flywheel up, only to see the loose friction disc way out of centre.

Mr Haynes says to use VW tool 547 to centre it, however, i dont have this tool and the local vw stealer seems adamant they dont sell tools. So is there a simpler trick to get the friction disc lined up in the centre of the flywheel? Anyone know the gap that should be around the lip of the flywheell to lip on the friction disc?

Cheers.

I have never used a centreing tool, always done it by eye with no problems. But take your time if you do it like this. But it is best to use the right equipment. Someone on here must have the tool you need. Maybe they are willing to lend it to you!

What i do is use a socket set extension and some electrical tape.

Simply wrap some tape to the desired diameter around the extension to fit the holes!

Simple, easy + all for the cost of a bit of electrical tape!
