Can anyone help with a problem I'm having finnishing fitting a replacement CV inner boot, o/s .
I am replacing the damaged boot seeing as the inlet and exhaust manifolds are off at the moment so access is good.
I was able to remove the socket head cap screws after stripping one until I saw they were torx bolts. I then removed the CV joint itself. After dropping all the ball bearings on the ground I cleaned and regreased all the parts and tried to refit the CV joint to the drive shaft.
I can get the CV joint on the splined end of the drive shaft but I'm having trouble getting it on far enough so that I can refit the circlip. It seems to be stopping just short of the groove so that the circlip won't engage in it's groove (only half of the groove is visible) Has this got anything to do with the 'concave' washer placed to the outside of the CV joint? Does this concave washer need to be compressed somehow? Have I maybe reassembled the CV incorrectly and how can I tell?
Hope you can help.
