Hi mate,

This is a known fault with Golf MK5's - and the dealers know about it.

Take it in, they will check the stereo (as it's a certain brand that is affected) and then arrange a swap-around for you.

I had this done on the MK5 GTi I had, and they swapped this for a brand-new silver button RCD300.

Until you get it swapped, there is a hack which can stop it switching on all the time - just make sure you leave a CD in the RCD300 while its shut off....

Cheers,

Rob

Hi, took it to dealers today and like you said they know all about it, they tried a software update but that didn't work so they have have ordered me a new one. Hope its the same as yours, does yours play MP3's now?

Hi mate,

Nope - mine didn't play mp3's via CD

I've now got a GT TDi 140 which has the original RCD300 stereo on it, and I've bought an ipod connection kit off ebay to connect my Samsung MP3 player to it (the adaptor has an aux connector but also the proper ipod connector which also allows for charging of the ipod).

You never know, you may get an MP3 enabled unit!

Hi, as anyone had problems with there rdc300 radio coming on when no one is in the car?

Do you have the I-pod link in your car?
We have it and found that if you left the ipod on sleep mode (where it switches on after a certain amount of time, almost like an alarm) the cd player would come on when the Ipod switched on. Took a while (and two jumpstarts) to figure it out.

But if I were you I would listen to what he said.

No don't have the i-pod link, wanted it but reading the stuff on this and other sites it dosen't sound worth the £150. As for the battery, it as had a few probs turning over like its flat sometimes??? surely that should be replaced under warranty as its the stupid radio coming on thats buggered
