clutch problems on mk3 2l, 8v gti
« on: 28 July 2007, 19:11 »
i was pulling up to a roundabout today and when i dipped my clutch to change down gear there was a thud and the clutch pedel shot down and wouldnt come back, i found second without the clutch and drove home slowly
i pulled up and popped the bonnet to find the little metal clip that holds the clutch cable to the arm on the side of the clutch housing had split, quick call to vw and £2.36 later i had a new clip, i had to put a jack under the clutch arm and jack it up so the cable would fit through and popped the new clip on, thought i'd done a good job and tried to go for a spin but it wont go, car starts fine and goes into gear fine but i can release the clutch pedal fully and it wont move, seems like the clutch wont disangage.
i'm handy with a spanner and dont want to pay the garage bills so if anyone can help me i'll be forever your friend lol

sounds like the clutch cable self adjuster has gone.....this can happen when the cable has to stretch to it's max

so its a case of a new cable then? or can i adjust mine, if so where is it that you adjust them? is it at the pedal or on the release arm on the clutch housing?
