golf gti mk3 2l 8v oil leak please help
« on: 25 July 2007, 19:09 »
hi
just got back from work and found a oil leak coming from the top of the oil filter housing from one of the sensors on top, the front one is lashing oil out the top and pushed the little rubber sleeve upwards,

can anyone tell me what sensor it is

What engine have you got??

The Crankshaft Impulse Sender (AKA Crankshaft Sensor) is located very near the oil filter on the front of the engine!!

The sensor is mounted roughly next to the filter but is arkwardly behing the front engine mount, it should be a black plastic part with a connector wire running from the sensor round the back of the oil filter and round to a connector mounted on a clip at the front of the engine roughly to one side of the front of the engine........does this sound right??

If this is it you can replace these for around £40.00'ish from a motor factor or more from a stealership!!

Hope this helps!!

Sounds like your oil pressure sender is leaking if it has a rubber boot over it, the only other sender on the oil filter housing would be the oil temp sender, but this does not have a rubber cover.

You could try www.vagcat.com, will have to register but its free and handy to find those sensors and other parts that really bug the hell out of you.

When you push the rubber sleeve up does it have a single core of thin cable with a crimp going to a spade connector if so could be oil temp. sensor there is also another one slightly smaller close by i'll get back to you on that one.

You just beat me to it thats the other one oil pressure sensor and your right that one has the boot connector and the oil temp. sensor doesn't.
